ORGANIZATION: Volunteer Polk

  • 3 people are interested

Located on the grounds of Florida's famous nonprofit, Bok Tower Gardens, the Pinewood Estate Mansion becomes decked out in beautiful holiday decor by area Interior Decorators each year.

Volunteer Docents (ages 16 - Adults), dressed in holiday attire, are stationed throughout the home to interact with visitors and answer questions about the Estate and its furnishings.

Training will be provided 11-17-2016 (alternative training date can be arranged) at 10 a.m. to learn about Pinewood Estates. For their assignment times, Docents may choose between the morning shift (9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.) and the afternoon shift (12:30 p.m. - 5 p.m.) and from any day(s) of the week. The Estate is open 7 days/week starting the day after Thanksgiving until the second week of January (1-14-2017).

Docents need to be able to stand/walk for the duration of their shifts.

Pinewood Estate, is a 1930s mansion Mediterranean-style home with many characteristics of an antique villa, complete with a barrel-tile roof, thick walls, substantial carved doors and woodwork, and intricately detailed wrought iron. The house has become one of the finest examples of Mediterranean-style architecture in the state of Florida.

Docents, who serve 50 or more volunteer hours, will receive FREE passes for themselves and two family members and access to tour the inside of Bok Tower. This is such an educational experience, for the docents as well as the Estate visitors and is such a fun festive way to begin the holiday season!
