ORGANIZATION: Volunteer Polk

Our 764 students (grades 6-8) need as much quality education time with their teachers, as we can give them. We also need to keep teachers' schedules accessible for parents to meet with them for collaborating on helping students succeed.

Media Center Heroes are CAPE-ABLEof helping put accessibiilty back in our teachers' schedules! They get our students the help they need, by helping with duties such as:

  • Using copier to print handouts, worksheets, tests,Make copies of flyers/tests, parent letters (training available)
  • Distribute printed materials to teachers in their classrooms. (You can LEAP from one building to the next if you like - however most modern-day Heroes find walking works quite well!)
  • Filing forms, reports
  • If you enjoy crafts . . .you can be of help by cutting out die-cut shapes/letters with Ellison shape-cutter/letter machine, cut apart laminated decorations and create bulletin board displays.
  • Shelve books and provide other general assistance.
Assignment is located with access to a bus stop and requires the ability to do some standing/walking and provides the opportunity for seated work as well. Media Center Heroes must be age 21 or older. Choose to serve according to your availability in the mornings or afternoons - between the hours of 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Assistance is appreciated any day(s) M-F - we are flexible. If you are NOT already an approved Polk County School Board approved volunteer (it counts if you are approved from other PCSB school sites) there is a $25 background screen fee (cheaper than most screens @ the normal fee of $75).
