Volunteers Needed! Help save a life. Become an American Cancer Society Look Good Feel Better program volunteer.

Cancer radiation and chemotherapy treatments can have a physical and emotional impact on patients' appearance and self esteem. Personal Care Products Council, in cooperation with the American Cancer Society and the National Cosmetology Association, developed and launched the Look Good Feel Better Program to help cancer patients regain self esteem and confidence in their appearance. Volunteers needed!

How Look Good Feel Better WOrks

  • Look Good Feel Better teaches women how to use scarves, wigs, makeup and other accessories to address the side effects of treatment.
  • A self-help brochure for men offers tips on hair and skin care.
  • Group programs are offered primarily in local hospitals and cancer centers and other community settings except salons.
  • Every cancer patient attending a group session receives a complimentary demonstration that includes free cosmetic samples.
  • The program is non-medical, free of charge, and product and salon neutral.

Role of Volunteers

  • The American Cancer Society trains volunteer licensed cosmetologists and estheticians to teach Look Good Feel Better patient classes
  • There is a 4 hour training provided in the community by the American Cancer Society.
  • Volunteers commit to conduct at minimum 4 patient sessions in area hospitals throughout the year (8 hours per year)

LGFB classes may be offered on Tuesdays monthly at the Springfield Regional Cancer Center.

Sessions are taught by licensed cosmetologists who have undergone detailed, standardized training (LGFB certification) in every aspect of the program.
