Students 7th and 8th grade from Northern NM will come together to work on exciting math activities.

Julia Robinson Mathematics Festivals (JRMF) inspire students to explore the richness and beauty of mathematics through activities that encourage collaborative, creative problem-solving. The Festival introduces kids to the beauty of mathematics by providing interesting, inspiring, engaging, thought-provoking problems.

Volunteers needed to be coaches during the event. Deep knowledge of Math is not required. You just have to have a love of exploration of math problems and willing to coach students over two-hour period. A Training session will be provided and is required in order to participate.

Mission Statement

STEM SANTA FE advocates for, develops and provides STEM programming, mentoring and resources for all youth, especially under-represented groups in STEM, to realize their potential and expand their opportunities in a dynamic world.

Description

STEM SANTA FE organizes out-of-school time programs to spark students interest in STEM careers. STEM Santa Fe organizes large one-day STEM events for as well as facilitate afterschool STEM clubs with focus on mentoring youth to enter STEM competitions and in turn help build perseverance and professionalism. According to the U.S. Department of education, "Not enough of our youth have access to quality STEM learning opportunities and too few students see these disciplines as springboards for their careers." STEM Santa Fe fosters a supportive and celebratory STEM environment and gets our youth excited about STEM career opportunities.

Focus areas:

1. Initiating out-of-school enrichment and mentoring programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

2. Mentoring students to attend and enter STEM competitions in the region.

3. Fostering teamwork, problem solving skills, and resilience to prepare the youth for the future job market demand.

4. Organizing STEM conferences and events to inspire students to remain engaged in school and in STEM fields.

5. Engaging under-represented groups in STEM, mainly girls, Hispanics and Native Americans to to close the achievement gap

6. Partnering with local groups , schools and non-profits advocating for STEM education.

7. Building a network among students, teachers, STEM professionals, volunteers, and educators.

  • No previous math major needed. Just a love for learning, mentoring and math. We will hold 1.5 hr training session from 8:30-10:00 AM before the festival starts.
