The Saturday Tutor is responsible for assisting students who need extra attention or confidence working with concepts they are learning in the classroom (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Other responsibilities include supervising students who are taking exams and reviewing lessons to make up missed classes. Classroom Curriculum is provided.

TIME COMMITMENT: Three Saturdays per training cycle, three hours each Saturday session (10 am - 1 pm). Training cycles are January- June, and July-December.

Must attend a volunteer orientation before you volunteer!

Requirements:

Basic Office Computer Skills: Volunteers should be proficient in the basic office computing skills covered in our classrooms: using the mouse and keyboard; developing typing skills with guided software; using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; sending and receiving email; and navigating the Internet.

Interpersonal and Communications Skills
Perhaps the most required skill for this volunteer position is patience! Our adult learners are working hard to develop new skills to improve their job prospects, and they need support and encouragement. Volunteers should have solid professional skills; interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and the desire to help adult learners seeking jobs in our community. Some knowledge of desktop or network concepts is helpful but not required.

We are training volunteers for our January semester. Your next step will be to attend a volunteer training session. Attendance at an orientation session is a mandatory step for classroom volunteers. It's a great opportunity to learn more about the history of our organization, the students we serve, our curriculum, computer resources and the support we offer..
