Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.
The rescue work we do is directly linked to the number of available foster homes that we have.
2018 has seen a record number of adult cats being abandoned by their owners or dumped at high-kill shelters. In our eight years we have hit an all-time high in the number of requests by the public for help with stray and abandoned adult cats. We are currently seeking fosters for adult cats who don’t do well in shelter environments, either due to shyness, stress, or having a FIV positive status.
In addition to feeding and cleaning time you will need to spend time with the cat daily to keep him or her socialized and happy!
Adult cats can often be integrated into the home with other cats and dogs and just need a safe, loving place where they can wait to be adopted. Some of our adult cats are FIV+ and cannot live in Petco kennels. Others are painfully shy or have special needs and need a quiet environment where they can be socialized prior to adoption.
Transport to Orange County adoption events will also be required. We currently hold adoptions in Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Westminster and Mission Viejo every Saturday.
OCSP will provide a starter kit consisting of a Litter box with litter, litter scoop, wet and dry food (bowls not provided).
We get many calls requesting us to take in strays or owner surrendered pets and even though we would love to be able to accommodate everybody we are only able to help those for which we have foster homes. For this reason you would literally be saving lives by fostering pets in need!
We will guide you through the basics if you have never fostered before. Even if you have, we will always be available to answer questions and assist in the transition to the foster home!
