Position Summary
We seek an enthusiastic individual looking to gain experience in digital storytelling, marketing, and social media at a non-profit serving over 400,000 visitors a year in sparking children’s learning through play. The intern will be responsible for assisting the external relations department with content creation including social media and communications at Minnesota Children’s Museum.

This internship focuses on a State Arts Board funded Teaching Artist Series. In spring of 2017, Minnesota Children’s Museum will complete a major renovation project that will result in a 100% new Museum. One of the new galleries, the Studio, will become home to this Teaching Artist programming. The 2017 Teaching Artist Series is the first to occur in the new Studio gallery and will engage children in an arts learning experience, led by Lisa Arnold, a local artist with experience leading arts workshops for audiences of diverse ages and creating beautiful mosaic art pieces. Working in partnership with other Museum departments, the goal of this internship is to document the series in video, photography and social media. This content will be used to promote the series with our community and multichannel efforts.

Responsibilities may include creating copy for the Museum’s blog, an e-newsletter and other owned digital channels and assisting with the execution of a content (editorial) calendar and producing web video. This includes shooting and editing video and conceiving video stories that support the #PlayMoreMN movement and/or digital photography. All positions include collecting analytics from owned social media channels and MCM.org, conducting market research and analysis, assisting with promotional and sales opportunities, and assisting with marketing plans.

Major Job Accountabilities
The exact duties and projects will be determined by mutual agreement of the intern and museum staff. All duties will be carried out with the direction and supervision of the External Relations department.

* Creating content for owned channels
o photos and video for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube
* Researching as directed
* Executing content calendar
* Analytics
o compiling, analyzing & reporting on admission data
o includes coupon redemption tracking
o keyword research for AdWord campaigns
o build, monitor and analyze AdWord campaigns
* Events
o assist with coordination and day-of-event duties as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
1. Ability and willingness to work independently.
2. Strong writing (copywriting) and proof reading skills with a keen eye for detail.
3. Formal education in related field (marketing, communications, journalism) or related experience.
4. Ability to organize time, follow directions and complete tasks in an effective manner.
5. Ability to interpret and analyze data.
6. Knowledge of branding, logos and target audiences.
7. Ability to work well with people.
8. Computer skills, including MS Office Suite and Google Drive

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in one or more of the following (please indicate this experience in your application):
1. Long-form blog platforms
2. Graphic design software
3. Social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter.
4. Video capture and editing
