ORGANIZATION: Knowbility

Knowbility is currently seeking volunteers to serve as mentors for one of our award-winning community programs ATSTAR.

Knowbility is an Austin non-profit working to improve access to technology for people with disabilities. We have several education initiatives, one of which is funded by a government grant to teach educators how to work with children with all types of disabilities. The program is called ATSTAR and is available across the globe.

ATSTAR is an online curriculum designed to improve educational outcomes for students with disabilities by helping teachers learn to use assistive technology in the classroom.

ATSTAR mentors will be the liaisons between Knowbility and public schools where ATSTAR has been implemented. ATSTAR mentors will be responsible for measuring the impact ATSTAR has on teachers and students. They will be speaking with both teachers and students to measure and evaluate the progress made following the implementation of the program then reporting back to Knowbility staff.

The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of the public school system and be involved in the k-12 community, whether as a parent, educator, program coordinator, or administrator.

Hours will vary and the schedule is flexible and will be determined by school hours.

We want to emphasize that this position is more about observing students' progress to determine the success rate of ATSTAR rather than mentoring or teaching them directly.

If you would like to have more information about ATSTAR, feel free to visit our website page: https://www.atstar.org/

About Knowbility

Location:

1033 La Posada Drive, Suite 307, Austin, TX 78752, US

Mission Statement

We work to raise awareness and skills that foster digital equity and inclusion for people with disabilities.

Description

Knowbility provides advocacy, education, and training in pursuit of the mission of equal access to digital technology. Knowbility is a leader in ensuring equal access to the communications tools that are required for all people to access education, employment, and social opportunities. Assistive technologies and workforce needs have created unprecedented potential for people with disabilities to live independently. This potential can only be realized, however, as the technology is made fully accessible to people who use assistive technology or adaptive strategies when they access the web. Knowbility's programs are innovative, entrepreneurial efforts to raise awareness and leverage community resources to deliver training, education, and employment opportunity to youth and adults with disabilities.
