The Patient and Family volunteer provides practical assistance, social and emotional support for patients and families of oncology patients who are receiving medical care at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Typically, volunteers assist families who are from outside of western Washington who have needed to relocate to the Seattle area for treatment. Responsibilities may include: assisting families with getting to know Seattle, providing empathy and emotional support, offering companionship and diversionary activities. This is an opportunity to both support a patient during treatment and to share in the patient’s journey. In addition to attending the New Volunteer Orientation, there is also a role specific training required for this volunteer position. The training will take place on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 9 am - 12 pm & Tuesday, Oct. 25 from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm. Volunteers must be 21 yrs. old.

To learn more about this volunteer opportunity, the process for applying and the application itself, please visit www.sccavolunteer.org. Orientations are offered quarterly in January, May, July and October. Specific dates are listed on the website and the application - please be sure to note the application deadline.
