Hospice Volunteer Opportunity
We are currently seeking friendly, well mannered and calm dogs to join Love On Leashes Pet Team serving hospice patients and families throughout the Chicagoland area. We have a special need for Pet Teams available in the greater Elgin area and in the Southwest Suburbs! Opportunities are opening up every day and while some visits are temporarily on hold at the moment due to the pandemic, this is the perfect time to train so that when visits open up you are ready!
Patients yearn for dog companionship. Love On Leashes provides companionship, comfort and even a few wet kisses to our terminally ill patients and families. Symptoms such as anxiety and even pain can be redirected with a friendly canine visit. Pet visits stimulate long term memory support and add to the quality of life at the end of life. You are needed!
Dogs must be certified in Animal Assisted Activities, carry insurance liability through certifying agency, be interviewed and possess the appropriate documentation with both the certifying agency and ours prior to patient visits.
Volunteer handlers must be 18 years or older, and complete volunteer training (self study modules). TB Testing, physical, drug screen and criminal background check provided at no charge. Social distancing and appropriate safety precautions are in place for safe visits.
Opportunities are flexible and based on your own personal schedule, level of commitment and travel boundaries. Serve close to home or work. Volunteers are non-medical companions.
Pamper your dog by sharing the love. Join Love On Leashes today!
