The Melanoma Education Foundation is a non-profit public charity that provides life-saving services throughout the U.S. Our free melanoma lessons are taught in over 1700 high schools and middle schools. The lessons educate students and teachers about early self-detection of melanoma, a skin cancer that is often deadly unless found at an early stage. The lessons have saved lives of students and teachers. Melanoma Warriors are volunteers who can earn community service credit by getting contact information to support our mission.

A major source of revenue to support our services is from New York City Marathon charity runners. We are an approved charity partner of New York Road Runners, the association that controls runner enlistment in the marathon. Unless participants are elite runners or fortunate enough to win a lottery bib the only other option to enter the marathon is by supporting a charity and raising funds from their supporters.

This new opportunity involves searching the web in designated states and cities for running club contact information so we can recruit runners for the 2017 NYC Marathon. We provide Excel spreadsheets with state names and detailed instructions for finding and entering the information. Melanoma Warriors can earn community service credit by finding the needed information.

No fundraising, selling, or phone calls are involved. The work can be done anytime during days, evenings, and weekends. We work on an honor system so we ask volunteers to keep track of their hours so we can verify them in community service confirmation letters. As we gain feedback from volunteers our goal will be to provide assignments that require about 4 hours each to complete. Additional lists will be available for volunteers who are interested in continuing.
