ORGANIZATION: The Museum Of Flight

Purpose of Position

A Gallery Ambassador is a volunteer mixture position between concierge and security guard. The Museum places Ambassadors at the main entrance and in the Charles Simonyi Gallery encouraging guests to learn about the Museum.

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Provide on-the-spot customer service to visitors

  2. Provide welcoming, helpful, and friendly service to all visitors

  3. Direct visitors to admissions, store, etc., and other amenities as needed

  4. Stay knowledgeable of current exhibitions and events and be able to connect visitors to information they are seeking

Qualifications

  1. Energetic, outgoing, and friendly individuals with an enthusiasm and interest in the Museum of Flight.

  2. Ability to succeed in a crowded, noisy atmosphere

  3. Must be able to stand and/or walk for at least three hours at a time

  4. Skilled with interacting with the public, retaining a courteous manner at all times

  5. Speak fluent English; fluency in other languages is a plus

  6. Maintain a neat personal appearance and adhere to the preferred dress code

  7. Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older


Working Conditions


Volunteers are asked to work at least two shifts per month with a one year commitment. The museum is open seven days a week. Shifts are 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM and 1:30 PM - 5:00 PM. Volunteers are expected to maintain a neat personal appearance. Volunteers are required to dress in business casual attire (clean collared shirt and slacks). Gallery Ambassador Volunteers report to the Visitor Service Lead.

Training

All volunteers are required to attend one volunteer orientation . The o rientation in cludes the general information about the museum, safety and security procedures, museum wide policies, volunteer program policies and volunteer benefits. The onsite Gallery Ambassador training will include an introduction to the job with the Volunteer Services Specialist and a tour of the Museum.
