The Mercer Island Thrift Shop is looking for volunteers to fill two skill levels in our jewelry department.

Level one:

Sort and untangle jewelry, organize, attach string tags to bracelets and necklaces and attach earrings to display cards. Attention to detail, fine motor skills, teamwork and good communication are required.

Level two:

Test, grade, price and display donated jewelry. A knowledge of gemstones, precious metals and the ability to identify designer work is desired. Good communication, transparency, accountability and teamwork skills are needed for the success of the mission. Volunteer schedules are flexible.

  • Physical requirements:
  • The ability to see markings through a magnifying glass

  • Good fine motor skills

  • The ability to work in a warehouse setting

  • All volunteers undergo a national criminal history background check at a cost of $21.00, refundable after 3 months and 36 hours of service.


  • 20% volunteer discount for 12 or more hours worked per month

  • 30% discount for 24 or more hours worked per month.

  • MITS provides on the job training and professional references.
