Do you enjoy helping others and giving back to your community? If so, join the Norwalk Health Department’s Emergency Response Team. This team of people donates their time and expertise to prepare and respond to emergencies, and to promote healthy living throughout the year.
Emergency Response Team (ERT) volunteers include community members with both medical and non-medical backgrounds. Interpreters, home makers, chaplains, office workers, legal advisors, medical and public health professionals are all needed. Lend a hand when there’s a need and help the Norwalk Health Department help others. Use your current skills and develop new ones while gaining additional experience. AND... meet other people who share your interests! We provide emergency response training and insurance. You provide your time and skills. After training, there is no time commitment required.

The mission of the Norwalk Health Department is to prevent and control the spread of disease, promote a healthy environment, and protect the quality of life within our changing community.
Description
The Norwalk Health Department provides a variety of services & programs to fulfill its mission. Health Department staff, teach people about making healthy choices. We inspect restaurants, housing units & salons for safety & sanitation. We test the beach water; provide vaccines to people, including travelers; test & counsel people about sexually transmitted diseases; investigate disease outbreaks to help the community stay healthy & stop the spread of disease. The Health Department has also built up a volunteer Emergency Response Team to assist with local health programs & respond to public health emergencies. The Health Department achieved accreditation through PHAB in June 2014 and was re-accredited in March 2023.

- Orientation or Training
- Orientations will be held between April 10-19. Mandatory training begins Wed., April 24 followed by (3)three consecutive Tuesday evening sessions: April 30, May 7 and May 14. All trainings take place from 7-9PM at the Norwalk Health Department.
- After training, NO TIME COMMITMENT is required. Monthly meetings are held and offer ongoing preparedness, emergency response training and NHD program information sharing sessions.
