Description: ASPIRE (Access to Student assistance Programs In Reach of Everyone) helps Franklin High School students access education and training beyond high school. ASPIRE mentors are assigned to work one-on-one with students, guiding them through important steps toward post-secondary education. As a mentor you will work collaboratively with students to assess their interest and needs to then research and access information and resources about college opportunities. This might include exploring college and career options, admission assistance from navigating online applications to helping with college essays, and financial aid and scholarships.

ASPIRE is open for all Franklin High School students. Any student who believes they can benefit from an ASPIRE mentor is welcomed and encouraged to participate. By being inclusive, ASPIRE ensures that all of Oregon's students have many options for a fulfilling future beyond high school.

ASPIRE mentors also works with many ELL (English Language Learning), minority, refugee, differently-abled, and low income students so mentors must be adaptable and flexible in their teaching styles.

Benefits of Position: Experience working in a school setting, serving with an energetic, team, and supporting and connecting with high school students.

Training/Resources Provided: SUN program orientation, initial SUN staff/ ASPIRE mentor training, and supervision and consultation as needed.

Commitment: At least twice a month one on one meetings with mentee(s) for the school year (Sept-June).

Schedule: Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs- Times Varies

Qualifications: Must pass a background check
Be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate
Have experience working with teenagers
Be able to work with a wide range of students from different backgrounds, cultures and languages, be able to establish healthy boundaries with students and staff, and have a positive, engaging approach to providing academic support to high school students.
