Position Summary
The Utah Pacific Island Film Series Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of monthly community screenings of Pacific Islander films, including coordinating panel discussions with cultural and industry experts. Additionally, the Coordinator will assist in organizing the annual Masima Film Festival in May, held at Broadway Theatre. This role offers an excellent opportunity for growth within the organization, with the potential to develop into a paid position.
Responsibilities
Monthly Film Screenings
- Coordinate logistics for monthly Pacific Islander film screenings, including securing venues, setting up equipment, and arranging seating.
- Select culturally relevant films each month in collaboration with the Director and ensure screening rights are obtained.
- Arrange and facilitate panel discussions post-screening, inviting filmmakers, Pacific Island community leaders, and other experts to participate.
- Promote each screening through social media, community bulletins, and local media outlets, aiming to increase community engagement and attendance.
- Ensure smooth operation on the day of each event, from welcoming attendees to addressing technical issues.
- Collect attendee feedback to improve future screenings and understand community interests.
Annual Masima Film Festival Support
- Collaborate with the Director to assist with the planning and promotion of the Masima Film Festival, held annually in May.
- Coordinate festival logistics, including venue arrangements, film selection, ticketing, and registration processes.
- Assist with festival marketing, outreach, and community engagement to attract a diverse audience.
- Work closely with volunteers and staff to ensure smooth operations throughout the festival, including setup, check-in, and panel moderation as needed.
- Support post-festival wrap-up, including evaluating feedback, summarizing outcomes, and suggesting improvements.
Qualifications and Skills
- Passionate about Pacific Island cultures, arts, and storytelling.
- Experience in event coordination or project management is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with comfort speaking to groups and coordinating with a team.
- Ability to work independently and with diverse groups, including community members, filmmakers, and industry professionals.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and basic marketing strategies.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required for monthly screenings and the annual festival.

We are a non profit servicing the Pacific Island community and all underserved community members, using our culture traditions and practices to eliminate violence, improve economic impact, preserve and promote ALL Pacific Island Cultures.
Our Pacific Island Male violence prevention advocacy group, KAVA (Kommitment Against Violence Altogether) Talks educates and creates awareness of Violence Prevention & Healing Resources available. The Mens Monthly Meetup is the 2nd Thursday of each month.
We offer a weekly Pacific Island Womens Empowerment Group in Salt Lake City and in St George, Utah once a month. A Womens Empowerment Group for all Women once a month in Salt Lake City.
We work with Pacific Island entrepreneurs, start ups, and business providing resources at the monthly meetup, 1st Thursday of each month, of the SLC Pacific Island Business Alliance. Our goal is to have a Pacific Island Business Hub as a business incubator to ensure success and currently have Mentors available to walk through with each participant.
To preserve and promote ALL Pacific Island Cultures, the Utah Pacific Island Film Series provides a FREE Pacific Island film each month at a different location. Govenor Herbert declares August as Utah Pacific Island Heritage Month. PIK2AR Kicks off the month at the end of July with 5 events creating platforms for Paciifc Island Business, Pacific Island Community Organizations, Mainstream Service Providers to engage, educate and collobrate.
