Not everyone is fortunate enough to know where their next meal will come from. Fortunately, there are amazing places like the DC Central Kitchen to tackle the issue of hunger. And of course, there are amazing people like you who are willing to volunteer to help make that possible. So, let’s get to it!

DC Central Kitchen is America’s leader in reducing hunger with recycled food, training unemployed adults for culinary careers, serving healthy school meals, and rebuilding urban food systems through social enterprise.

Every day, DC Central Kitchen produces nearly 5,000 healthy, scratch cooked meals for DC Public Schools, with the Nutrition Lab serving as a central hub of this operation. Additionally, healthy snacks packed with fresh produce are prepared at the Lab every day for Healthy Corners, DCCK’s program that makes fresh food available in DC’s food deserts. Finally, the Lab is the site of our Fresh Start Catering business, which employs our graduates and produces revenue for programs.

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

For this volunteer opportunity, we will be doing a 3-hour shift of basic food preparation including chopping, peeling, or washing food.

Please plan on arriving at 8:45am for orientation.
