Aegis Hospice is looking for Pet Therapy Volunteers and Animal Assisted Volunteers to join our growing volunteer program.
We have volunteer opportunities all over the Phoenix area!
Pet Therapy Volunteers visit patients in private homes, group homes, and long-term care facilities, once a week or twice per month. Hospice volunteering is a rewarding experience, and you may volunteer as little or often as you like.
To volunteer for Aegis Hospice, animals and handlers must be certified in Pet Therapy through Pet Partners, Alliance of Therapy Dogs, American Kennel Club, or a similar certifying agency. Therapy dogs need to be at least 1 year old. Basic obedience, veterinary screening, and interview are required. Human volunteers must also complete volunteer training and orientation.
Aegis will provide training before volunteer placement. Our training prepares all volunteers for the challenges of working with patients their caregivers, and families. Topics include listening skills, grief and loss, the medical aspects of end-of-life, and the psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. A background check is required, along with a current negative TB screening. A current CPR certification is also needed.
