Our No One Dies Alone Volunteer program provides a compassionate presence for patients who are without family or friends present in their last days. Volunteers visit patients in their homes, talking, reading, playing music, and being an advocate for the patient’s needs. You can offer a hand to hold or a friendly voice to let a patient know that he or she is not alone. Aegis will provide training before volunteer placements. Our training prepares all volunteers for the challenges of working with patients their caregivers, and families. Topics include listening skills, grief and loss, the medical aspects of end-of-life, and the psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care. No One Dies Alone Volunteers receive additional training to ensure they are educated and comfortable with end-of-life support. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. A background check is required, along with a current negative TB screening. A current CPR certification is also needed. Volunteers are the heart of hospice, and volunteering with Aegis Hospice could be the most meaningful thing you ever do!
