REPORTS TO:Disaster Program Manager

SUMMARY: Seven times a day, someone dies in a home fire. Every 40 minutes, and injury from a fire is reported. Nearly 1,000 times every day, fire departments are called to home fires. Damage from US home fires is bigger than the entire annual salary of many Fortune 500 companies.

For the past 20 years, these numbers have remained relatively stagnant.

By mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors, the American Red Cross and our coalition partners will attack that stagnation. In an unprecedented, nationwide effort to combine technology and innovation with old-fashioned neighbor-to-neighbor outreach, we will save lives, reduce injuries, and cut back on needless losses.

The Home Fire Preparedness Campaign Local Program Coordinator manages the planning, implementation and evaluation of our local campaign efforts. The coordinator will seek out and establish local coalitions in communities across 17 counties, including fire departments, houses of worship, businesses, schools, military groups, neighborhood leaders and others. They will then work with our partners to pinpoint campaign locations utilizing data from five years of home fire responses with demographic risk factors like poverty and high median age. The coordinator will ensure the logistical needs of each campaign are met including volunteers and resources.

Managing our volunteer workforce, the coordinator will send teams into neighborhoods with home safety checklists, family disaster plan templates, and smoke alarms. This individual must be nimble, as campaigns must be coordinated in areas that experience a loss of life at any time and with short notice. This team role is vital to the organization and requires excellent critical thinking skills. Anyone interested in this position must be able to analyze data, interpret trends and propose action to mitigate potential community risks. Those wishing to serve in this capacity will be given significant leeway to develop their strategy and implement their service delivery plan, with guidance from the Disaster Program Manager. Strong interpersonal skills are required due to the significant volunteer pool they are given to develop, maintain, train and dispatch.
