Art Enables Artists

Art Enables is an art gallery, studio, and employment program dedicated to creating opportunities for artists with disabilities to make, earn income, and market their honest and compelling artwork

We are seeking Farmers Market volunteers as we launch our new adventure into selling our artists' work at local farmers markets. The volunteers would help load in, decorate and set-up the booth, greet visitors and promote Art Enables, assist with sales and wrapping up art, and breaking down the booth.

Approximate times would be two Thursdays a month, from 2pm - 8:30pm - although any help during that time window would be appreciated. The farmers market is located right next the Rhode Island Metro stop and runs through November.

Interested? Come by Saturday, July 9th 1 - 4pm during our gallery opening and free workshop to get a feel for the organization.

About Art Enables

Location:

2204 Rhode Island Avenue NE, Washington, DC 20018, US

Mission Statement

Art Enables is a 501(c)3 nonprofit studio and gallery for adult artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Serving artists from the Washington metropolitan area, our mission is to create the opportunity, environment, materials, and marketing support they need to succeed as professional artists. Our goal is to further an understanding of the alternative way in which many people who are marginalized can communicate when they are given the chance. Our artists have a range of disabilities, such as Down syndrome, traumatic brain injury, intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, and persistent mental illness. But they all have one thing in common: they are artists. In addition to all of the studio resources needed to create art, we provide a full calendar of exhibitions both in our gallery and other venues, as well as online sales and marketing of artwork. Artists earn more than money from art sales: they earn pride and validation as professional artists.
