Help Medicare beneficiaries understand and get the most from their Medicare health benefits with the Georgia SHIP (State Health Insurance Program) program. As the aging and disabled populations continue to grow, SHIP volunteers are needed now more than ever. Multiple volunteer opportunities are available to fit your skills and interests. Prepare and distribute materials, educate the community at presentations or community events, provide administrative assistance, or do individual counseling. Counselors provide assistance for health insurance related issues including Medicare, Medicaid, prescription drug assistance programs, financial assistance programs, and long-term care insurance. Whether you are helping someone navigate the Medicare maze, save money, or protect themselves against health care fraud, you will make a difference in the lives of people in your community. Training is provided for required certification.
Georgia SHIP is a federal and state volunteer-based program that provides free, unbiased, and factual information and assistance regarding Medicare and other related health insurance. Georgia SHIP is the Medicare State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) for Georgia.
All volunteers are required to pass a criminal background check and CANNOT have a license to sell insurance. Georgia SHIP is looking for those who are able to commit their time and talents for 4 hours each month for at least a year. Counselors must become federally certified by completing online instructional modules and passing an exam. After complete training, volunteer counselors may serve virtually from home. Other positions require some training but not federal certification.

Description
RSVP is a national volunteer program which matches individuals ages 55+ with volunteer opportunities at organizations dedicated to improving their local communities. Volunteer positions are available in the North Georgia counties of Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Lumpkin, Towns, Union, and White. Share your experience, skills, talents, and wisdom with volunteer programs in your local area to benefit members of your community. You receive assistance with matching your skills to a volunteer position and locating sites at which to volunteer; recognition and appreciation for volunteering; and free supplemental accident and liability insurance while serving as an RSVP Volunteer. RSVP is an AmeriCorps Seniors program funded and administered by AmeriCorps, the Federal Agency for volunteering and Service. Georgia Mountains RSVP is sponsored by Legacy Link, Area Agency on Aging, which provides services for older adults across North Georgia.
