PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: To perform and document landlord and vet checks for potential adoptive families to ensure all pets go to a safe home.
SALARY/PAYRATE: Volunteer.
TIME REQUIREMENT: Approximately 3-5 hours per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Verify residential information and any pet restrictions by contacting the landlord of potential adoptive families.
- Ensure that all resident pets of potential adoptive families are current on vaccinations and preventatives by contact their current veterinarian for verification.
CONTACTS WITH OTHERS: Correspondence with other adoption counselors, potential adoptive families, veterinarians, and landlords on a regular basis. Correspondence with lead adoption counselor and adoption team director on a semi-regular basis. Correspondence with other volunteers as needed.
CONTROLS OVER WORK: This position reports to the Adoption Team Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be proficient with use of email (experience with Gmail preferred, but not required).
- Must have consistent access to Internet, email, and phone in order to work virtually (phone calls/emails) on a regular basis.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and maintain professional level correspondence at all times.
- Must be organized and skilled at record-keeping.

OUR APPROACH
Our organization is run mostly by volunteers, and all of our pets are housed by dedicated foster families throughout North Texas.
We rescue and help the healthy and treatable pets at greatest risk for euthanasia at our partner shelters. We also provide assistance and resources to pet owners having problems so significant that they need to surrender their pets to a shelter.
In our rescue program, we focus on:
- Rescuing healthy and treatable pets at North Texas shelters at the greatest risk of being euthanized
- Reducing owner surrender through our Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (PASS) program
- Opening kennel space by transporting pets to partners in the U.S. and Canada in need of adoptable animals
- Challenging the way our community views rescue animals. We believe that adoption is not only right thing to do but THE thing to do!

*At this time, we do not accept court-ordered service hours nor track community service hours.
*Our organization does not currently have an established office location, however in March 2023 DPA opened up an Adoption Container.
