Many of our exhibits include costumes that children may wear while engaging in dramatic play. Our exhibits also include hundreds of props that need repair and maintenance. The Sewing Repair Tech assists Exhibit Production staff in repairing and maintaining the many costumes and props used by children in the various Museum exhibits. The volunteer will work remotely to complete the work.
The Sewing Repair Tech is responsible for picking up repairs from the Museum, mending and repairing the costumes and props, and returning them with in a five day time period. The volunteer must communicate with the Exhibit Props Specialist via email if any unforeseen challenges arise that prevent them from completing the responsibilities listed above .
Knowledge and experience of basic hand-sewing and machine sewing techniques.
Ability to pick up and drop off materials at Minnesota Children's Museum.
Access to basic machine/basic sewing tools for work (thread and notions provided).
- Ability to follow oral instructions and ask for assistance and additional explanation as necessary.
- Ability and willingness to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience using email to communicate.
