Gatewave Recording Set-up
Recording facility at Gatewave's office -- one of dozens of locations where our programming is created

Gatewave is a round-the-clock radio service that brings information and entertainment to listeners who are blind, visually impaired, or reading disabled. We’re seeking additional volunteers with experience editing digital audio to assemble at least one hour of programming each week, at their own location, on their own equipment.

You’ll download new spoken-word segments each week and edit them together in a standard format with an open, midbreak, and close. You’ll check for problems, conform levels, bring the show to time, export it as an mp3 file, then upload to our server before the weekly deadline.

We'll expect you to be available most weeks, but with a little advance notice we'll arrange for an occasional substitute.

You’ll be part of a caring team that's making a big difference in the lives of our listeners!

What would you do?

...if printed material was no longer an option because you had lost the ability to see or to turn a page ... Your most reliable connection to the world around you had simply vanished ....

Why Listen?

A Gatewave radio or internet service gives you access to the daily reading of the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and other daily newspapers as well as a host of magazines and occasionally, books. We also provide programs specifically for those with visual impairments and other disabilities. Our readings are produced by trained spoken word artists.

Gatewave is an internet/radio reading service providing access to publications for blind and disabled listeners. With offices at Helen Keller Services in Brooklyn, NY, its content is heard over special radios in the New York City area, heard over internet streams, mobile apps, a telephone service for the blind, and rebroadcast by affiliated reading services in New Jersey, the South, and the Midwest.

Gatewave's programs are broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Gatewave is a non-profit 501(C)(3) charitable organization dedicated to providing alternatives to reading for those who are visually or physically disabled.
