We are seeking a volunteer Outreach Assistant for our online conservation media magazine, Voices for Biodiversity (V4B). V4B uses the ancient art of storytelling to share the stories of people from around the globe in order to help all species survive and thrive together, The e-zine is a gathering place for those who believe that humanity’s health and well-being depend upon the health and well-being of other species and the ecosystems that support us all. V4B’s goal is to alter human behavior in such a way as to connect the human animal with the global ecosystem in order to stem biodiversity loss and arrest the sixth extinction of species taking place in this time, the Age of the Anthropocene. In 2014 the American Anthropological Association awarded V4B the Anthropology in Media Award. The magazine can be found at: www.voicesforbiodiversity.org

This position offers an excellent opportunity to build upon experience and connections in the public relations, marketing and outreach fields. As our 1% Percent or the Planet Outreach Assistant, you will be responsible for finding sponsors for Voices for Biodiversity using 1% for the Planet. One Percent for the Planet’s mission is to build, support and activate an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet. Voices for Biodiversity is already listed as a viable nonprofit in need of sponsorship with 1% for the Planet. Your tasks will be to:

(1) Write descriptions of what V4B does (using the information from grants that have already been written)

(2) Create a targeted excel spreadsheet of businesses enrolled with 1% for the Planet that would be a good match for V4B.

(3) Approach those businesses for sponsorship in a methodical manner, which would include:

a) Sending emails

b) Following up with telephone calls

c) Pitching V4B

d) Working on contracts that are win-win for both V4B and the businesses that decide to

sponsor us.

This is a virtual opportunity that can be completed anywhere with reliable internet and long-distance telephone or clear skype access. We are looking for several applicants with prior outreach and communication experience. An outgoing, people-oriented personality with strong management and communication skills is a must for this position. The applicants should have a thorough knowledge of environmental issues and a burning passion to save other species. Our 1% Outreach Assistants will work under the supervision of our Outreach Coordinator and will liaise with our grant writing team.
