Special Olympics Florida -Marion County is seeking volunteers to help plan and organize Special Olympics events locally in Marion County and volunteer coaches.
Volunteers are needed to serve on the local Management Teams to assist with Marketing, Athlete & Volunteer Recruitment, Fundraising, Training and Competition and Games Management efforts as well as serve as coaches. The County Programs focus on:
* Sports Competition - games, training, unified partners
* Life Enhancing Activities - Healthy Athletes, Healthy Community, Athlete Leadership
* Participation Growth - Market and brand what Special Olympics Florida has to offer, recruit certified coaches, volunteers, athletes and culture partnerships.
Marion County is seeking volunteers in the following areas to help with the Management Team:
Sport Management: Maintain and add Registered Training Programs to database. Assist coaches with rosters and athlete compliance (current medical/application).
Fundraising & Grants: assist with the support of fundraising events, grants and special events
Marketing and Communications: Assist with marketing of local games, media outreach and help to spread the word about Special Olympics Florida - Marion County.
Outreach Chairs: assist with volunteer, athlete and family recruitment and communication.
Marion County also has opportunities for coaches and assistant coaches for the following sports:
Coaches are the key to a successful sports experience for the Special Olympics athlete. As a coach, you teach sports skills and model good sportsmanship and character. You give Special Olympics athletes the most immediate awareness of their self-worth, ability, courage, and capacity to grow and improve both on the playing field and off. Coaches will be provided training and sports seasons run for 2-3 months.

Special Olympics Florida provides sports training and Olympic-style competition to more than 60,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities throughout the state. Special Olympics Florida is a Level I Accredited Program (highest level of accreditation granted by SOI) and is divided into 11 area programs, which cover over 55 counties.
