Volunteers make a great difference!

Share your talents with the summer STEAM Academy program! We guide students through fun Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) based hands-on activities and explorative experiments.

This summer we are covering:

*Weekly Ice breakers

Week 1 Candy Chemistry:
Students will be exposed to the science behind candy. From exploring why pop rocks pop to watching m&ms dissolve, to testing the acidity of sour candy, students will be challenged to explore the various sciences and answer their questions through experimentation about candy.

Week 2 Art Week:
Students will be creating a mural for the office, students will use various mediums to explore their inner artistic talents. Students will learn about some of the more popular artists and learning to identify their art work verses another artists.

Week 3 Tech Week:
From utilizing computers to ipads to vlogging, students will enrich themselves in the understanding of technology. Students will create apps and utilize code.org to do some coding. Students will learn also about robotics and the advances being made in the world of technology as well as students will dream up their own technological creations.

Week 4 Cooking Week:
Utilizing science, math and artistic principles, students will engage themselves in the fun world of cooking. Nutrition and exercise will be stressed for a good healthy well balanced lifestyle. Students will be encouraged to make healthy snacks at home, and even learn about culinary artists and their careers. There’s even a possibility for students to create and try their own recipes.

Week 5 Math Week:
Students will explore math in an upbeat, fun environment. Students will engage in several different activities from finding their own theorem, attempting to solve problems that are offered for money, and even exploring the art and math concepts of origami. Students will be publishing their own math manipulatives during this week.

Week 6 CSI Mystery:
Upon entering the classroom students will be given a challenge to solve, students will explore the science behind CSI and how to solve crimes. Students will even learn about their Miranda Rights by a college professor from Pierce College. Hands on experiments, taking fingerprints and attempting to solve the crime given are what this week is about.
