ORGANIZATION: Rural Dynamics

Join the Montana Economic Opportunity VISTA project for a one year term!

MEO's goal is to strengthen three specific objectives within low income communities: improving access to financial literacy, developing transitional plans and/or continuity strategies to keep low income individuals in safe, affordable housing, and to improve employ-ability among under and unemployed Montanans.

PowerHouse MT, based in beautiful Missoula, aims to increase economic security of Montana women whose income is now ranked 45th in the nation, moving them out of poverty and reducing the gender pay gap of 75 cents to a man's dollar. Our mission is to cultivate a culture of giving so Montana communities can flourish. We work to build resources and to advance the economic self sufficiency of women and create a brighter future for girls. In a rural state, such as Montana, one of the best available paths out of poverty is small business ownership. The PowerHouse Project is an online platform for women across the state to connect to one another to find role models, mentors, and support. The intended result of the VISTA's service on this project is to populate a new online platform with economic opportunities, resources, and at least 100 new mentors. Another key piece of the project is providing webinars, in person outreach, and in person education to provide valuable new learning to participants, especially those in rural areas who are currently under-served.

Member Duties :The member will be increasing traffic on the PowerHouse website to support capacity building for the program through online outreach and educational efforts. Key to the success of the project, the VISTA member will also expand the volunteer mentor base. As well as track and update participant data periodically to achieve continuity for the program. Throughout the term of service, this member will be charged with raising funds and creating a legacy binder to ensure the sustainability of the program.

Program Benefits : An annual living allowance of $11,136;
An education award of $5,550 upon successful completion of service; (or)
A cash award of $1500 upon successful completion of service;
Health care benefits;
Loan deferment or forbearance while enrolled as a VISTA;
