The MEO project will support anti-poverty programs by building the capacity of organizations serving low-income communities; encouraging volunteer service; and generating the commitment of private sector resources.
The MEO AmeriCorps VISTA Project, hosted by Rural Dynamics, Inc. (RDI), focuses on strengthening organizations and programs that bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Our goal is to strengthen three specific objectives within low income communities: improving access to financial literacy, developing transitional plans and/or continuity strategies to keep low income individuals in safe, affordable housing, and to improve employability among under and unemployed Montanans.
The VISTA Leader, in coordination with the MEO Project Manager, will work to develop and support VISTA project members. The Leader will help market VISTA positions, recruit new VISTA candidates, and help VISTA members successfully transition into their new communities. The Leader will plan and conduct on-site orientation and training, and provide project teams with daily guidance. This role is crucial in assisting VISTAs in overcoming many of the on-site barriers and challenges that may lead to early termination.
Integral to enhancing the member service year, the Leader will facilitate information sharing and peer learning, including finding necessary funding to implement training sessions, thereby increasing the capacity of VISTAs to complete their service successfully. Finally, the Leader will maintain social media connections to develop an esprit de corps among the VISTA cadre. **To be eligible, the candidate must have already completed one full year of VISTA service.
