We are looking for volunteers to assist instructor in a multi-level Vocational English as a Second Language (ESL) class for immigrant janitors who work at Oracle's Redwood Shores campus.

Teaching Aides will assist the instructor, often working with small groups or individual students to provide extra support. The class is a fun learning environment where low-wage workers who are very motivated to learn have a opportunity to better their English skills, allowing them to feel more confident in their work and in navigating life in the U.S. In turn, volunteers with BSP receive training and acquire skills in teaching ESL, gain knowledge about the issues facing newcomer families, make new friends, and become part of BSP's volunteer community.

Class location: Oracle Campus located at 600 Oracle Parkway

Class schedule: Monday/Wednesday/Friday 10:20am-11:20am

Volunteer Skill Requirements:

  • Patience, enthusiasm, and flexibility.
  • Ability to volunteer at least once a week for a minimum of four months.
  • Dependability.
  • Spanish speaking skills and teaching experience helpful, but not required.

Our Organization: Building Skills Partnership (BSP) is a statewide non-profit collaboration between the Californian janitors' union, SEIU-USWW, community leaders, and responsible businesses to build a strong future for building service workers, their families, and communities by advancing skills, opportunities, and self-sufficiency.

The time to give back to your community is now. We can't wait to hear from you! Email Marcail Distante at Marcail@buildingskills.org for more information.
