JOB TITLE: County Marketing and Communications Chairperson

PURPOSE : On a year round basis, develop and implement activities, materials, and media opportunities, which will increase community awareness of the Special Olympics movement and promote the capabilities of persons with intellectual disabilities.

JOB DUTIES :

* Recruit, screen and train members of the Marketing and Communications Committee and all volunteers associated with this committee

* Conduct efficient and effective Marketing and Communications Committee meetings

* Ensure that the Special Olympics Florida brand is represented correctly through proper messaging and visual representation, per the SOFL Creative Style Guide and by adhering to SOFL and SOI rules.

* Attend and fully participate in County Management Team Meetings

* Ensure annual Marketing and Communications plan is developed and implemented

* Forward the Marketing and Communications budget onto County Management Team for approval and subsequently follow the SOFL financial reporting system

* Ensure the recommended duties of the Marketing and Communications Committee are delegated to its members

* Ensure promotional activities are in place for county and local programs year round

* Utilize any marketing and communications materials, whenever appropriate, developed by SOI in conjunction with SOFL specific materials

* Oversee all aspects of media relations for county games and events

* Evaluate Marketing and Communications plans, goals and objectives annually

* Utilize Global Messengers to share the Special Olympics message and vision

* Evaluate committee members’ service annually to determine if continued membership is recommended and increased responsibility should be given or if they should be removed from the committee or reassigned to another position

* Recognize and thank committee members

* Submit a final report to the County Coordinator and assist with the completion of the County Accreditation Document

QUALIFICATIONS : The volunteer should:

1. Have experience in Marketing and Communications (i.e., radio, TV, journalism, etc.) and have media contacts in the community

2. Have good oral and written communication skills

3. Be able to delegate responsibilities to committee members and volunteers

4. Have experience and be prepared to be interviewed on radio and TV programs and by reporters

TRAINING PROVIDED: Review Special Olympics Official General Rules, Special Olympics Florida Administrative Manual section on Marketing and Communications, language guidelines, social media resources, My Tools site training, SOI Public Relations Handbook, SOFL Creative Style Guide, SOI materials and video catalogue, SOFL and SOI fact sheets, newsletters, and any relevant SOFL and SOI videos, attend Annual Leadership Conference. SOFL and County will inform the chairperson of any Special Olympics trainings, conferences and/or workshops which are applicable and encourage attendance.

Special Olympics Florida provides sports training and Olympic-style competition to more than 60,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities throughout the state. Special Olympics Florida is a Level I Accredited Program (highest level of accreditation granted by SOI) and is divided into 11 area programs, which cover over 55 counties.
