PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER Public relations practitioners establish and maintain mutual understanding and goodwill between an organization and the public. They offer clear information about an organization or its products to the outside world through broadcast, print and electronic media. They also monitor public and media perception of an organization by doing research and commissioning surveys. The Public Relations Officer's duties include the following: Plan public relations programs Recommend strategies to effectively promote Independent Living Housing, Inc. to potential funders, volunteers, and other key stakeholders Organize and arrange news conferences, press launches, etc. Write and develop flyers, brochures, press releases, newsletters, etc. Participate in workshops and other community events to promote agency Develop media release form and be responsible for obtaining authorization to use collaborators, students, and parents in promotional material for Independent Living Housing, Inc. Positively and effectively represent Independent Living to the public at large and act as its spokesperson Typical working hours are 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work. The work is office-based, with frequent travel to meetings and other public relation events. Skills and Qualifications Ability to write clearly and concisely Have skills as an excellent communicator Be able to understand and interpret information Have the ability to work in a team Have at least a bachelor s degree in communications or a related field This is an unpaid intern position. The Public Relations Officer will report directly to the Executive Director. EXECUTIVE/ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT Provide administrative support for Independent Living Housing, Inc. s office, fundraising, marketing and program implementation needs. Function as administrative support staff to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Work from the yearly production calendar to accomplish tasks in a timely and professional manner, according to specified deadlines. Provide administrative support for daily office operations. Maintain office equipment; order supplies as needed/approved. Manage phone, e-mail correspondence and inquiries; provide client support. Perform light bookkeeping functions. Maintain the organization s various files, databases, computer and hard copy documents, and other operational systems. Provide support for production and distribution of press releases, posters, ads, direct mail pieces and other marketing tools in support of Independent Living Housing, Inc. and its community programs. Provide administrative support for development activities, including annual donor campaign, and preparation of government and foundation grants. Provide administrative support for and production of internal and external correspondence and other internal documents, including newsletters, and monthly Board agendas, minutes and other materials. Provide staff support for the Board of Directors and its meetings, including taking and producing minutes of the meetings, and preparing and distributing documents. Attend staff meetings. Assist Executive Director with administrative tasks as assigned. Perform additional duties and projects as assigned. Qualifications: The candidate will possess strong computer, organizational and customer service skills, with demonstrated proficiency in all MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Publisher. Proficiency with Access, PageMaker and/or web design is a plus. Applicant must be effective in interacting graciously with customers both on the phone and in person. Applicant must possess energy, enthusiasm, and initiative, must be detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple tasks on a daily basis. Candidate must be experienced in hands-on work in support of and as part of a small, high-energy team in a deadline-driven environment. The ability to follow established, detailed procedures is necessary. Strong written and verbal communication skills are highly desirable. Significant administrative assistant experience preferred. OUR PROGRAM ILH developed the Todays Youth program to enhance the self-esteem and teach life skills to youth and young adults who are learning-disabled and developmentally challenged. Youth with learning disabilities can lead enriched lives when they are in an environment that builds their self-confidence and skills. The self-esteem workshops and after-school tutorials are designed to help youth build positive self-esteem; identify emotional spirals; understand and apply effective conflict resolution; improve their proficiency in reading, writing, math, science, computer and study skills; and prepare them for reading and MEAP testing.
