We are seeking an office volunteer that can help 12+ hours per work week and willing to make a commitment of at least one year.
Scope of Work:
The overall purpose of our office volunteer opportunity will be to provide assistance to H.E.R.O. for Children Staff. Office volunteer opportunity are available in three areas/departments within H.E.R.O: Fundraising/Development, Programs and General Administration. Office volunteer responsibilities may include:
Fundraising/Development:
- Making follow up calls to foundations to confirm receipt of grant proposals
- Scheduling meetings between the HERO Director of Development and key persons at local faith-based organizations
- Assisting with marketing/communications by working with web site manager to ensure that updates are communicated and completed
- Assisting with a large project that will include identifying small businesses from a large database, creating an Excel spreadsheet, learning and completing a mail merge, and completing all mail out logistics
- Assisting with the planning and logistics of potential fundraising events
Programs:
- Making follow up calls to program stakeholders (e.g., members of Super HERO matches)
- Assisting with curriculum/program development and implementation (researching new and existing interventions, organizing evaluation tools/instruments, assisting with stakeholder meetings)
- Assisting with identifying and contacting organizations and key stakeholders in order to recruit children and mentors
- Other assigned tasks
General Administration:
- Providing administrative support for day-to-day management of HERO Programs, including: planning, implementation, research and development
- General office assistance, including filing, drafting letters and other assigned tasks

Days and times are flexible - preferably 10:30 AM-2:30 PM or 2-6 PM shifts Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Agency will also consider Internship opportunity.

Description
H.E.R.O. for Children is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of children infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
We define 'Quality of Life' as the degree of physical, social, and emotional well-being an individual enjoys while being able to envision and attain unlimited future success and fulfillment. At H.E.R.O. for Children, Inc., quality of life programming seeks to achieve the following:
- Bridge gaps, created by personal and societal factors related to being infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS, which can diminish a child's potential to succeed
- Expand life exposure through a wide range of opportunities and events that allow children to experience the normal joys of childhood
- Increase social, interpersonal, and academic skills so that children are able to accomplish age-appropriate milestones, compete with their peers, and perform normal tasks of living
- Improve children's perceptions of their future prospects and overall life possibilities
- Create opportunities that will increase children's ability to function effectively, despite being infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS, and become contributing members of society.
