The Ohio Center for Law-Related Education (OCLRE) is seeking volunteers to serve as facilitators for its Ohio Mock Trial State Competition on Thursday, March 12 at the Franklin County Courthouse.

Facilitators are needed at the following times. Individuals may select one or more shift(s).

  • Thursday, March 12 from 12 - 4 p.m., and/or
  • Thursday, March 12 from 4 - 8 p.m.

Ohio Mock Trial allows high school students to argue an original case based on a Constitutional issue before a panel of experienced attorneys. Facilitators help direct teams and judges to assigned courtrooms and act as liaisons between OCLRE staff and participants/judges.

Volunteers should be prepared for a lot of walking and wear comfortable shoes. Training and meals provided. As this event takes place at the county courthouse, please remember that all visitors and their belongings must pass through court security. No backpacks allowed.

Description

OCLRE partners with teachers to bring citizenship to life. As such, OCLRE provides academic programs for students in grades 4-12, with a focus on civic education, government and law. Student programs include Mock Trial, We the People, literature-based Middle School Mock Trial, Moot Court, Project Citizen and Youth for Justice.

All programs are aligned with state learning standards and engage students with a question to be answered and/or a problem to be solved. Collaboration is important. Every academic program incoporates a culminating activity that helps make the learning 'real' for students.
