Volunteer to tutor adults for GED preparation in areas of Language arts, Science, Social Studies, and/or Math. Tutors generally meet with students for two hours weekly, but the time commitment is flexible. Meeting times and locations are flexible to fit you and your student's life. Free training sessions are provided.

Meetings may be held in person or virtually (Zoom).

Tutors are also needed in areas of Adult Basic Reading (K-12 levels), and English as a Second Language (ESL)/citizenship.

Description

Capital Area Literacy Coalition is a nonprofit organization in Lansing, Michigan. Also called The Reading People, the organization provides a variety of free services to empower people to achieve their personal goals through literacy. We believe that the ability to read is critical to personal freedom and the maintenance of a democratic society. We provide free one-to-one instruction in reading and writing for children struggling in school, at-risk teens, and adults. We also provide tutoring to migrant and refugee families, GED services, and English as a Second Language instruction. All our programs and services are free and powered by volunteers.
