We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Newsletter Editor to join our team as a volunteer. This role is instrumental in helping us communicate effectively with our community and stakeholders through a monthly newsletter. The Newsletter Editor will manage all aspects of newsletter production, from content creation and curation to editing and design, to ensure that each edition is engaging, accurate, and reflective of our mission and values. For those who demonstrate commitment, quality, and creativity, this role has the potential to grow into a paid position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Content Development: Research, write, and curate relevant content for our monthly newsletter, ensuring it aligns with our organizational tone and goals.
  • Editing and Proofreading: Edit content for grammar, accuracy, and style, maintaining high standards for clarity and consistency.
  • Layout and Design: Use our email platform (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact) to design the newsletter, organizing content for readability and visual appeal.
  • Collaboration: Work with staff, program leaders, and other volunteers to gather information, stories, and updates to feature.
  • Analytics and Improvement: Track and analyze engagement metrics to continually improve content and outreach effectiveness.
  • Scheduling and Distribution: Ensure timely distribution of the newsletter by adhering to a monthly schedule and coordinating distribution with the Communications Manager.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong Writing and Editing Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a focus on clarity, grammar, and audience engagement.
  • Design Savvy: Basic experience with design platforms like Canva, InDesign, or email marketing software (Mailchimp, Constant Contact).
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple content pieces, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and consistency.
  • Communication and Collaboration Skills: Ability to work effectively with a diverse team, incorporating feedback from multiple stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
  • Background in journalism, communications, marketing, or related fields
  • Experience with email marketing platforms and newsletter design
  • Knowledge of or connection to our organization’s mission and community

Description

We are a non profit servicing the Pacific Island community and all underserved community members, using our culture traditions and practices to eliminate violence, improve economic impact, preserve and promote ALL Pacific Island Cultures.

Our Pacific Island Male violence prevention advocacy group, KAVA (Kommitment Against Violence Altogether) Talks educates and creates awareness of Violence Prevention & Healing Resources available. The Mens Monthly Meetup is the 2nd Thursday of each month.

We offer a weekly Pacific Island Womens Empowerment Group in Salt Lake City and in St George, Utah once a month. A Womens Empowerment Group for all Women once a month in Salt Lake City.

We work with Pacific Island entrepreneurs, start ups, and business providing resources at the monthly meetup, 1st Thursday of each month, of the SLC Pacific Island Business Alliance. Our goal is to have a Pacific Island Business Hub as a business incubator to ensure success and currently have Mentors available to walk through with each participant.

To preserve and promote ALL Pacific Island Cultures, the Utah Pacific Island Film Series provides a FREE Pacific Island film each month at a different location. Govenor Herbert declares August as Utah Pacific Island Heritage Month. PIK2AR Kicks off the month at the end of July with 5 events creating platforms for Paciifc Island Business, Pacific Island Community Organizations, Mainstream Service Providers to engage, educate and collobrate.
