Brief Description: The Coordinator Intern will be responsible for working Yoellie Iglesias, Executive director in order to gain experience working in a social service setting that is dedicated to serving families. The Coordinator Intern will receive training and hands on exposure in the areas of case management, housing assistance, and family support/care among many other areas.

The Coordinator Intern should be organized, able to multi-task, capable of working in a fast-paced and active environment, a good communicator, possess good reasoning skills, be relational, computer proficient, and detail oriented.

Summary of Training Opportunities

  • Guiding families through the process of moving towards program graduation
  • Performing initial intake assessments of applicant families
  • Working with families on budget and financial planning
  • Potentially assisting families with keeping appointments and housing/job searches
  • Researching opportunities for specific families (i.e., child care, various resources)
  • Serving a relational resource during times of crisis
  • Possibly providing information on transportation for families and to make necessary appointments
  • Potential participation in house meetings and program classes
  • Learning filing and organizational systems

Minimum Requirements

  • Must to commit to at least 10 hours per week for 12 weeks
  • Must learn Madre Latina Inc. Guidelines and Program Policy
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Must be able to operate a computer and telephone system (preferably PC & Mac)
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds
  • Must be able to support the mission, purpose and guiding values of Madre LatinaInc at all times
  • Must be able to function both independently and on a team
  • Must understand and maintain proper boundaries between staff and families
