Coaches Needed!
Become a certified volunteer coach for A Matter of Balance, the award-winning fall prevention program for older adults. If you possess the skills below you may be the volunteer coach we are looking for:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- An authentic interest in elders
- Enthusiasm and dependability
- An ability to facilitate discussion groups
- Ability to perform and instruct low-intensity exercises
- Some clerical skills
- Ability to carry 20 pounds
A Matter of Balanceprogram consists of eight classes over the course of eight weeks. Each class is two hours in length and is led by two Coaches. Coaches must agree to lead twoA Matter of Balanceprograms within 12 months of training.
A Matter of Balance activities include group discussion, problem-solving, skill building, assertiveness training, videotapes, sharing practical solutions and exercise training. The volunteer coach model of A Matter of Balancewas developed by Southern Maine Agency on Aging and its associates, and has become an innovative evidence based national model for addressing fall prevention.
