The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Volunteer in Lake County and support survivors of sexual assault! ZCenter is looking for Medical Advocates to support survivors of sexual assault in the emergency room (we serve all hospitals in Lake County).
Medical Advocates offer emotional support and resources on-site to the survivor and her/his loved ones.
Medical Advocates are present with the survivor throughout their time in the hospital. You will be a support before and after the medical exam and will provide resources for survivors, allowing them to be aware of all their options as they make informed decisions.
Our 40-hour Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training will equip you with the tools and resources you need for this opportunity. Our next training starts June 4th and will be a daytime training at out Gurnee location. Our training covers:
History of the Rape Crisis Movement
Components of Sexual Assault and Abuse
Medical, Legal, and Support Line Advocacy
Prevention Education & Community Outreach
Our training is interactive and includes role plays and various presentations from professionals within the agency and in the community. You will also interact with current volunteers through our panel, where they share their volunteer experience and answer questions you may have.
ZCenter Medical Advocates respond to hospitals throughout Lake County and the schedule is flexible based upon your availability. Please contact Ashley Dawson at firstname.lastname@example.org or 847-244-1187ext.159 to learn more.
