Help us build a stronger Tucson!
Earlier this year Mayor Rothschild’s office, Arizona Serve of Prescott and the Southern Arizona Community School Alliance partnered together to improve high school graduation rates and connect students to post-graduation opportunities. As a Community School Initiative partner, United Way is supporting the partnership by providing Financial Coaching.
We are currently seeking volunteers interested in providing one-on-one assistance, mentoring, and guidance aimed at helping high school students access post-secondary education.
What does this mean for you?
- We will provide free financial coaching.
- Volunteers get the opportunity to learn a skill and then practice that skill with real people.
- Be the Change! - change the role of education in the lives of students, families and communities, so that under-served youth may be empowered to overcome obstacles and become happy, healthy and productive adults.
What are we asking?
- Becoming a Volunteer for United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona. Complete application here.
- Attend a two-hour training
- Since volunteers will be working with students in school, each volunteers will need to get a fingerprint card.
- Volunteers will spend approximately 8 hours a month, split between two 4-hour shift working directly with 3 - 6 students (junior and seniors) through the school year at the school.
- OPTIONAL - Attend monthly meet-ups to network, learn, and share.
Schools cannot succeed on their own; community school partnerships bring critical resources into schools in order to meet students’ academic, health, family or emotional needs and to help free teachers to teach.

Description
The New United Way
For more than 80 years, United Way has held a reputation as our community's fundraiser, but United Way doesn't just raise money.
Today's United Way is a focused, results-driven system working year-round to change community conditions and create lasting solutions.
Much like a "general contractor" manages all aspects of constructing a building, we manage people and resources to create lasting, positive solutions in lives that need it most.
Through strong partnerships with volunteers, local business, government and nonprofit organizations, United Way accomplishes what no one can do alone.
With your help, we can ensure that:
- Education: children will enter school prepared to learn and attend safe, nurturing after-school programs
- Income: families will have the tools they need to remain strong and safe
- Health: seniors will live actively and make independent life choices
Together, we can Build a Better Community in Tucson and Southern Arizona.
