DC PAWS is an ALL volunteer, 501c3 animal rescue, who works with closed rural high-kill shelters where the only chance for the animals there is organizations like DC PAWS.

Currently DC PAWS is looking for volunteer help in the following areas:

Adoption Coordinator: Every dog and cat has a advocate called an adoption coordinator. The adoption coordinator works closely with the animals foster, and screens all applications for the dog/cat. The adoption coordinator also works with adopters during the adoption transition and provides guidance and resources as needed.

Fosters: DC PAWS Rescue does NOT have a facility, so our foster homes are the heart and soul of our organization. They provide a safe and loving environment for the dog or cat while the animal is looking for it's fur-ever home. For some animals it's the first time they have lived as part of a family and really been loved as part of a family. Fosters help make the transition for these dogs and cats!

Drivers: Sometimes our dogs and cats need a little help getting to adoption events and medical appointments. Volunteers to are able to pick up and drop off dogs and cats when their fosters are unable to is a huge help.

Handlers: We often need additional handlers at events to keep our animals safe, and facilitate their interactions with prospective adopters and the public. It's a few hour commitment on a Saturday or Sunday. Events are throughout the DC Metro area.

Home Visit Volunteers: Home Visits are a crutial part of the adoption process, it ensures that the dog or cat is going into a safe and loving environment and that the adopters are fully prepared for their new family member. A home visit takes about 20-30 minutes. DC PAWS provides instructions and a checklist of things to look out for during the review.

Grant Writers: Experienced grant writers are needed to assist us in evaluating and applying for grants that could bring much-needed resources to DC PAWS Rescue and our on-the-ground rescuer in South Carolina.

Foster Screeners: Every foster application is vetted to ensure that the foster homes we're putting dogs and cats into are safe loving environments for the animals.

Mission Statement

DC PAWS is dedicated to saving the lives of animals who have no hope in closed, high kill shelters. DC PAWS is also dedicated to the wellbeing of its volunteers, as well as the animals in it's care. We believe there is more to rescue than getting animals out of shelters into homes. We believe that a rescue also needs to support the people who support it.

Description

DC PAWS Rescue is an ALL volunteer, 501c3 animal rescue in the DC Metro area that works to save lives from high-kill, closed rural shelters where there are no adoptions and with out organizations like DC PAWS the animals would have no chance of survival.
