Administrative assistant volunteers are the face of Sarah's Hope Shelters and serve a critical role in ensuring all clients, visitors, and callers are assisted efficiently, accurately, and in a welcoming manner. Volunteers in this role regularly collaborate with staff to provide prompt and professional service.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors and direct them to the appropriate staff
  • Answer the main office phone, respond to queries regarding shelter space, and provide basic information about Sarah's Hope services
  • Take messages for staff and clients while maintaining confidentiality
  • Make copies and send faxes
  • Assist all volunteers and donors with logging their hours and donated items
  • Perform other office tasks as assigned by supervisor
  • Sign in and out on the VicTouch computer

Qualifications

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age
  • Volunteers must complete an application and background check as well as attend an orientation prior to starting service

Time Commitment

  • Volunteers must commit to serve at least one 3-hour shift per week
  • Shifts can take place during normal business hours, Monday through Friday

  • Sarah's Hope: two emergency shelters serving homeless families in Baltimore Cith and County
  • Beans & Bread: a homeless day resource center that provides meals, access to housing, employment services, case management, healthcare and other supportive services
  • Front Door: a repaid re-housing and shelter diversion program for homeless individuals and families in Baltimore City and County
  • Head Start: pre-school program preparing 3 and 4 year olds for Kindergarten and life
  • Workforce Development Services: including our Next Course food service training program and 2 Career Connections drop-in employment services centers
  • Camp St. Vincnet: a full-day, 8 week summer camp for homeless children ages 5-14 in Baltimore City and County
  • Frederick Ozanam House: recovery-based transitional housing program for men in Baltimore City
  • Home Connections: permanenet supportive housing for program for chronicall homeless adults
  • Cottage Avenue Community: transitional housing for homeless families in Baltimore City
