Application and screening required. We are looking for an experienced English as a Second Language Instructor to volunteer and facilitate a weekly class every Thursday from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Alpharetta Library.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead classroom activities including one-on-one tutoring, leading small groups, and teaching specific components
  • Support program activities by researching new curriculum content and preparing educational materials

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a multi-level ESL classroom
  • Create curriculum, activities, and projects that are appropriate for a multi-level ESL classroom
  • Promote a culturally inclusive and linguistically diverse classroom environment
  • Demonstrate an understanding of various models of ESL instruction

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Comfortable working in a cross-cultural environment; international experience a plus
  • Enthusiasm, positive attitude

Description

The Fulton County Library System is the largest library system in the state of Georgia. Volunteers serve at all 34 locations. The System provides a variety of literacy and community information services and programs for citizens in and around the Metropolitan Atlanta area. These services include, but are not limited to: providing audio, visual and print media for check-out by registered patrons; providing programming that reflects the diverse interests of area residents and visitors, and providing meeting areas for community discussion and interaction.
