Environmental Learning Centers of Connecticut
Welcome to the Environmental Learning Center of Connecticut!- "Inspiring an appreciation for, and enjoyment of nature, through education and conservation, fostering a healthy environment and an improved quality of life".
We are looking for interested volunteers to assist in the maintenance of our 750 acres of property, specifically at the Indian Rock Nature Preserve and the Harry C. Barnes Memorial Nature Center. Indian Rock is ELCCT's educational facility which includes an educational center, apple orchard, demonstration farm, a pond, wigwams, barns and acres of forest. The Nature Center is our public interface and includes a visitor center, live animals, interactive exhibits and 2 miles of hiking trails.
We could use your help in maintaining it all! Mowing lawn, maintaining the hiking trails and blazes, repairing barns and outbuildings, painting, cleaning, gardening, splitting wood- you name it! We can also host your company's Volunteer Work Day.
ELCCT offers a diversity of hands-on experiential programs using a variety of resources and facilities. Our programs are offered at the Barnes Nature Center, Indian Rock Nature Preserve and in the schools of Connecticut. In 2019, we provided our environmental educational programs to over 25,000 children and families from over 70 Connecticut communities!
