The student will be able to learn about death and dying, grief and loss, coping with complex/terminal medical issues, working with individuals and families, working collaboratively with team members and developing relationships with community health partners.

The student will visit patients in their home, nursing home, assisted living or hospital and conduct assessments, provide spiritual support/counseling, and crisis intervention as necessary. The student will develop working relationships and collaborate with doctors, nurses, social workers and other disciplines. In addition, the student will have the opportunity to work with veterans.

The student will also have the opportunity to be creative and develop his/her own projects.
In addition, Optum Hospice is part of United Health Group and s/he will have the opportunity to experience working with one of the largest healthcare companies in the world.

The student must be able to travel to different locations and commit to one year of service.
