Volunteer Hard at Work

Gather your coworkers and assemble sets of wooden blocks depicting educational characters and letters! We will supply all the raw materials and assembly instructions, and these blocks will be used by Tandem educators to reinforce storytelling and literacy skills through play in the classroom for underserved children ages 0-5. Great as a corporate team-building craft exercise, can be done in our office or in yours.

We ask for a contribution of $50/person to cover materials and time, often this comes from the company's marketing, volunteer, or ad hoc budgets, and is not covered personally by the volunteers.

About Tandem, Partners In Early Learning

Mission Statement

Tandemâ„¢ partners with families, educators, and communities to surround young children with interactive learning experiences that spark joy and close the opportunity gap. Our programs support families to read with their young children from birth by providing access to high quality children's books, training for parents, and support for early childhood educators.

Tandem’s programming is rooted in the belief that high-quality early learning and strong family bonds can break the cycle of poverty and build brighter futures for children. Both strategies are effective on their own, but when approached together and with strong partnerships in the community, the results can be greater and more lasting. To that end, Tandem works in two program areas: Community Capacity-Building and Family Engagement. Tandem has served 90,000 children ages 0-6 and their families in three Bay Area counties (San Francisco, Alameda, and Contra Costa) since 2003. Tandem’s programs focus on serving families whose children at greatest risk of falling behind: children living in poverty, English language learners, children of color, and children not enrolled in formal care settings or preschool.
