Mission Statement
Tandem, Partners in Early Learning envisions a just society where children thrive. To this end, our mission is to co-create equitable, high-quality early learning experiences.
Description
Tandem partners with school districts, early childhood education agencies, and community-based organizations serving families to offer programming that meets community priorities. Our programming focuses on 1) providing high-quality, age-appropriate, multilingual books; 2) supporting families and educators with strategies for promoting high quality early learning; and 3) expanding the capacity of communities and community-based organizations for early childhood education and family engagement. The ability to innovate based on community need, and to meet families where they are, is a distinctive characteristic of Tandem’s services.
Tandem’s unique book collection is the foundation for several of our programs. Our collection includes over 1,700 titles in 21 languages and our books featuring human characters focus on diverse and affirming representations of BIPOC (Black, Indigeneous, People of Color) children and families, and are written and illustrated by BIPOC authors and illustrators. Tandem also provides strengths-based training for caregivers in their home language; targeted professional development for early childhood educators in elementary, preschool, and childcare settings; and programming in local community venues to reach families through formal and informal networks.
