Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) DeKalb County is looking for community members to become volunteer advocates for children involved in juvenile abuse or neglect court, most of whom are in foster care.
CASA Advocates are assigned to one case at a time and stay on that case until the child(ren) is placed in a safe, permanent home. CASA Advocates visit the child(ren) at least once a month and talk with others involved in the child's life to gather information for the court.
Volunteers must be 24 years old and do not need any specific background or education. It takes about 10 hours a month to fulfill the role of an Advocate.

Our mission is to advocate for and serve as the voice for children in DeKalb County who have experienced abuse or neglect.
Description
CASA is appointed as the guardian ad litem (GAL) for children in juvenile court who have experienced abuse or neglect. We train volunteers to serve as Advocates for these children, empowering the volunteers to make lifelong differences in the lives of these children. As the GAL, CASA Advocates are responsible for gathering information regarding the child and reporting their findings to the judge in juvenile court. The Advocates are the voice of the child in court, advocating for the child's best interests with the goal of the child having a safe, permanent home as soon as possible.
