Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) DeKalb County advocates for and serves as the voice for 100% of the children in DeKalb County who have experienced abuse or neglect and are involved in the juvenile court system. In an overburdened social welfare system, children who have experienced abuse or neglect often slip through the cracks among hundreds of current cases. Appointed by judges, CASA volunteers typically handle just one case at a time and commit to staying on that case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. While others may come and go, CASA advocates provide that one constant that children need in order to thrive.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to advocate for and serve as the voice for children in DeKalb County who have experienced abuse or neglect.

Description

CASA is appointed as the guardian ad litem (GAL) for children in juvenile court who have experienced abuse or neglect. We train volunteers to serve as advocates for these children, empowering the volunteers to make lifelong differences in the lives of these children. As the GAL, CASA advocates are responsible for gathering information regarding the child and reporting their findings to the judge in juvenile court. The advocates are the voice of the child in court, advocating for the child's best interests with the goal of finding the child a safe, permanent home as soon as possible.
