It Takes a Village maintains the "Village Closet", a donation and distribution site full of donated baby and kids' clothes, maternity clothing, and baby gear. All items are free to anyone in the Western Mass community.
We receive so many donations that we have trouble sorting them and putting them away fast enough to get out the door again. We need help!
We are looking for a few volunteers to help organize donations during our open hours.
Currently we are open:
- Sunday and Monday 11am-2pm
- 1st Tuesday of the month- 5pm-7pm
Tasks will include:
- Sorting bags and boxes of donated clothing by size, and putting them away in bins.
- Organizing items like books, toys, diapers and formula.
- Helping families bring items to their cars.
Volunteers need to:
- be organized
- communicate well with others
- work independently
- have access to reliable transportation to get to and from the donation site.

Groups of students or volunteer clubs are welcome to contact us. Teens 15-17 years old need adult permission, and kids and needs 12-14 must be accompanied by an adult.
We are also looking for bilingual volunteers to help with translation for Spanish speaking families that come in to shop.

It Takes a Village is a nonprofit organization offering free postpartum support to families with infants and young children living in Western Massachusetts. Our mission is to increase practical and emotional support and decrease social isolation, all while engaging the community to understand their responsibility in welcoming the newest members of their Village. On the road through parenthood, the Village is here for you.
Description
They say "It Takes a Village" to raise a family, but what does that Village look like?
All families deserve support from their community. That is why we provide practical and emotional support including:
- Weekly home visits for families with infants
- Postpartum Resource Kits
- Parent Support Groups and classes
- The 'Village Closet’ - a donation and distribution center full of free maternity, infant, and children's clothing and gear
- Lending Library of a variety of books on parenting topics
- Referrals to local organizations and agencies
To date we have supported over 1200 families and distributed over $150,000 worth of baby clothing and gear. Our services are available to ALL families for free, regardless of income or circumstance.
